Show, Don't Tell

Brand Writing Prompt #002

Brand Writing Prompt #002

Recently, I shared with Marc Thomas of Positive Hüman the importance of show versus tell. We’re all guilty of assuming our clients “get it.”

Spoiler alert: They don’t.

They’re busy and distracted. They likely don’t have time (or patience) to wade through jargon-packed service and a list of deliverables. So, instead of telling them what you do, show them how life is better when they work with you.

Your Task

Write a before-and-after transformation of your best-fit client.

This could be someone you’ve actually worked with or an amalgamation of several clients.

The Formula

Before working together, my client felt [before emotion 1] and struggled to [pain point]. Their work felt [before emotion 2], making it hard to [secondary struggle].

After our work together, they felt [after emotion] because now they can [transformation]. No more [pain point 2]—just [new, improved outcome].

"Before working together, my client felt overwhelmed and struggled to keep up with their marketing. Their messaging felt scattered, making it hard to attract the right customers.

After our work together, they felt confident because now they have a clear plan for their marketing. No more second-guessing or feeling salesyjust messaging that brings in the right people effortlessly."
